After the three great races of the last day, the Austrian Poell family could be greeted as the 2017 European Champion of the 22er Binnenjolle boat class.
The European Championship of one of the most special threesome wooden boat class, the 22er Binnenjolle, with a historical tradition, ended in Balatonfüred.
In the 3-day race, Austrian and German sailors fought for continental championship titles. The weather showed his perfect face: sunshine, wind, waves, with real challenges. Thanks to this, 5 races took place under great conditions.
On the first race day, the task of circumventing the Tihany Peninsula was the task that most of the prepared units had successfully accomplished. At the start of the race, 10-12 knots of northern winds increased to 12-14 knots in Tihany, while on the other side of the peninsula, 17 knots made it more difficult for the competitors.
There was no shortage of turnovers – the Binnenjolles had become a big wave’s victim, but the prepared competitors have solved the more and more interesting situations without others’ help. The tour-race was won by the German Fram unit with the leadership of Manfred Jacob, Marek Jacob and Udo Lang on board, the second was the Austrian 3-member Poell family, under the direction of Matthias Poell, and third was the Austrian Fiedler family.
András Holczhauser, Secretary General of the Hungarian Sailing Association greeted the people at the awards on Tuesday, then László Hagemann race leader and Zsolt Regényi, president of the jury spoke and congratulated the sailors. Manfred Jacob, the Captain of the 22-year-old Binnenjolle Yacht Division, greeted the organizers and thanked the warm welcome and hospitality of the Balatonfüred Yacht Club. For each participating vessel, unique class fees were awarded, which Andreas Poell handed over. Awards were also given to Yardstick category riders, where only the third place has changed compared to the absolute result: the third place was taken by Andreas and Susanne Poell.

Founded in 1867, the Balatonfüredi Yacht Club (BYC) was the first sailing club in Hungary, also one of the oldest sailing clubs in Europe and continues to be the most successful and prestigious sailing club in Hungary. Located right in the centre of Balatonfüred it functions as an integral part and continuation of the unique classical-style Tagore-promenade along the waterfront of Lake Balaton. The club plays a key role in the youth development and talent management, and disposes over and internationally experienced professional staff.
